Welcome to the St. Louis Confluence RIVERKEEPER® website.
WE ARE WATER
We use water every day; for drinking, bathing and cleaning, for watering our lawns, for transportation, recreation and agriculture. Water is used in power generation and cooling of electricity-generating equipment. Think about it; without water, there would be no life on earth. There is no escaping the fact that the quality of water is important to all life.
The confluence of the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers is found within the third largest watershed in the world. This North American watershed drains over 1,245,000 square miles within 31 States and two Provinces of Canada. We are truly blessed to live where three great American rivers come together and provide us with such an abundance of fresh, free-flowing water. These fantastic flowing bodies of water belong to all of us. Preserving, protecting and enhancing water quality is a sacred trust that we all share.
When you support the work of the St. Louis Confluence Riverkeeper, a 501(c)3 not for profit organization, you actively participate in the important work of maintaining water quality. The mission of The St. Louis Confluence Riverkeeper organization is to make a significant ongoing contribution through independent scientific water testing to preserve, enhance and help assure safe water quality levels on the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers. In cooperation with major local universities, private industry groups and local, state and Federal agencies, we serve as a source of information, public education and scientific river water test data.
We protect our waters by:
- Monitoring the rivers by boat and from land
- Regular water testing using scientific protocols
- Educating area residents about the importance of water quality
- Strongly advocating excellent water quality on the rivers
- Strongly supporting the enforcement of all rules, regulations and laws that protect our rivers
- Creating an organization of citizens known as The River Lovers to help create water quality awareness and camaraderie in our confluence communities

Protecting our rivers is a job too big for just a few people, or even our first class Board of Directors. We must join together to ensure that our rivers stay healthy; that the water we all depend on daily is kept free of pollution; and that we educate others about the importance of our rivers.
How you can help: We need financial support to pay for water testing, insurance, equipment, and fuel to run our boat.We need you! Please support the St. Louis Confluence Riverkeeper with a tax-deductible contribution. If you contribute $50.00 (13.6 cents per day) we’ll send you a River Lovers T-shirt to say, “Thanks!” Please sign up today! Help ensure that our waters stay alive and well for the health, welfare and enjoyment of all.
